In today's Internet world, it's nice to know that a few lines of newspaper classified advertising still get results.

In early 2007 I placed an ad in the local newspaper in Blue Ridge, Ga., asking for information about an old drag strip that operated there in the 1960s.

I was curious about a  three-day super stock meet I remembered from  1965, which ran at Calhoun, Chattanooga and  Blue Ridge. I found a small ad for the Double H Drag Strip in newspaper microfilm. Information about it was scarce to nonexistent, so I took a chance with the classified ad.

After a couple of weeks, an email  finally appeared from a guy in Idaho named Terry Hembree, who was the son of one of the track's co-founders.

He said he had old newspaper clippings and a bit of movie film that he would be glad to share, and that information set the foundation for this Web site. Terry still has a place in Blue Ridge and gets the hometown newspaper in Idaho. He's also a drag racer, running a Stock Eliminator Camaro in NHRA's Division 7.

My next inquiries led to Ellijay, Ga., about 15 miles from Blue Ridge, and the famous Strip Teaser Ford race cars sponsored by Thomas Oil Company. Bob Thomas graciously took time out of a busy workday to talk and give me access to some of his photographs. Most important, he pointed me to Ronnie Evans, the man who had taken many of those pictures.
