These images come from about 20 minutes of home movies taken at the Double H Drag Strip by the family of track co-founder Bill Hembree. Comparing film's content and newspaper accounts, the film appears to have been shot on Nov. 17, 1963, the date of the track's grand opening race.
The film quality is not good; I've tried to improve these images as best I can. I've grouped them mostly by make -- Dodge, Ford, Chevy -- plus a group of shots of Bob Thomas and Howard Neal cars, and a grab-bag of images of various gassers/C4Bs, all of which I have no information about (again, any help will be appreciated). Some of the other drivers include Huston and Hubert Platt, Steve Bagwell, Bill Tanner, Lloyd Milholland (his Mountaineer and the Slo-Poke are the same car; he bought it from Larry Lawrence), and Reese Gibbs ('62 Bad News Ford, ex-Phil Bonner car; still racing in 1965).
New 3/30: I created a second movie frames page, because this one is getting cumbersome to look at, at least on my computer. You'll find Steve Bagwell, the Platts and the gassers/C4Bs there.
